Jake Cronenworth’s RBI single snapped a 1-1 tie in the 7th inning, Yu Darvish gave up just a run on 4 hits in 6 innings, and the San Diego Padres
Freddy Fermin added a 2-run homer on the next pitch, and just like that it was 4-1.
Darvish (W, 2-3) struck out 6 and walked none before giving way to the Padres’ vaunted bullpen to nail it down from there.
Jeremiah Estrada, Mason Miller and Robert Suarez (SV, 33) each tossed a scoreless inning. Miller struck out the side in the 8th inning.
Jackson Merrill doubled in Fernando Tatis to give the Padres a 1-0 lead in the top of the 6th. Merrill went 3-4, and Gavin Sheets went 2-3.
Fernando Tatis Jr., who has been struggling for most of the season, added 2 hits and scored a run.
Rafael Devers tied it up for the Giants with a solo homer in the bottom of the 6th.
Logan Webb (L, 10-9) shut out the Padres through 5 innings and pitched well through 6 before falling apart in the 7th.
