DO NOT BLAME SEIYA SUZUKI – Cubs DJ Show Episode 5

Was that the worst Chicago Cubs loss of the season? I think so… Is it Seiya’s fault? Absolutely not. Let’s talk about it.

The Cubs just lost what one handsome man called “The worst loss of the season”. They were up 6-0, Steele on the mound ROLLING into the bottom of the 6th. It felt so good to have a game that looked like a nice and casual win. Then the Braves reminded us that they have the best lineup in baseball…

Steele gets pulled before finishing the 6th. Cuas couldn’t clean up the mess he was given, Javier Assad got his first taste of Acuna and then, the most heartbreaking play of the 2023 season happened. Seiya was camped under a pop fly to end the 8th inning and seemed to lose it in the lights… Braves score two on the error and go on to win the game 7-6. Did that error directly give the Braves two runs in theory? Yes. But was this loss on Seiya? No. And I will give you a few reasons why.

1. Our bullpen did not look sharp in any way. Assad left one in the middle of the plate and found out why Acuna is the MVP front runner and Smyly got himself into a shitty situation right before Seiya’s error. I understand the Braves have the best lineup in baseball, but you cannot lose a 6-0 lead with 6 games left and you’re in the middle of a playoff push.
2. We had some mental errors from players AND Rossy. PCA was brought in to pinch run for Tuchman in the 4th and got picked off on a fake throw to 2nd on a steal attempt, a play that you get benched for in 8th grade travel ball. As for Rossy, he made the hottest hitter on the planet, Miles Mastrobuoni, lay down a sac bunt in the 8th after a leadoff single. If you haven’t noticed, Miles has been the hottest hitter on planet earth over the last week and came up to the plate sitting at 3 for 3 in the game. I genuinely don’t get why you take the bat out of Miles’ hands when he is seeing the ball the best he has EVER seen it just to get a slow Yan Gomes on 2nd and strikeout specialist Patrick Wisdom on deck? Maybe that’s an easy decision for someone who knows baseball better than I do, but I look at that as a mistake.
3. And the 3rd and final reason that Seiya is not to blame for this loss is that we left 9 guys on base! We had a constant flow of traffic all night and just put on a clinic on how to leave them out there. Seiya was actually the only guy to have a big extra base hit to score some runs with a 2 run triple in the 3rd. Seiya has been carrying this offense for about a month and a half, and he only had 2 errors on the season coming into this game. He genuinely has been our best baseball player since he got back in the lineup in early August, and stats show that he has been a top 3 hitter in all of baseball over that span.

This loss is NOT on Seiya. He lost a pop fly in the lights and that happens. It will be highlighted forever because of the timing. The only reason the Cubs are still in this position is because of Seiya’s play over the last 6 weeks. I do not want to hear ANY Seiya slander online. We’re still int eh drivers seat. Go Mets. Beat the Marlins.

What would Ted Lilly do? Thank you watching. Go Cubs Go.
