Having SIX Cubs named as NL Gold Glove finalists proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jed Hoyer and Craig Counsell built this roster on absolute run-prevention elite status!
While Seiya Suzuki and Dansby Swanson didn’t make the top-three cut at their positions this year, seeing Pete Crow-Armstrong, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, Matt Shaw, Carson Kelly, and Matthew Boyd all nominated leads the entire National League!
Breaking Down the Gold Glove Finalists:
Pete Crow-Armstrong (Center Field): Absolute lock. PCA spent the entire year putting on a masterclass, running down impossible gaps, and making home-run robs look like routine popup catches.
Ian Happ (Left Field): Hunting for his 4th straight Gold Glove! His outfield arm and uncanny wall awareness make LF at Wrigley Field a complete no-fly zone.
Nico Hoerner (Second Base): Pure range and smooth turns. Nico led all NL second basemen in Defensive Runs Saved (17 DRS) and Outs Above Average.
Matt Shaw (Third Base): What a unbelievable breakout rookie year at the hot corner! Posting 19 DRS at 3B in his first full big-league campaign earned him well-deserved national hardware recognition.
Matthew Boyd & Carson Kelly (Pitcher & Catcher): Boyd picking off an MLB-leading 11 runners alongside Kelly’s elite framing gives our pitching staff the ultimate defensive backbone!
Win or lose in the postseason, this club plays defense at an elite, championship-caliber level!
