2023年、メジャー2年目のシーズンを終えた日本人外野手 鈴木誠也。
鈴木は2022年3月に日本人野手としては史上最高額となる、5年総額8500万ドル・日本円にして約101億円の大型契約を結びメジャーの舞台に躍り出た期待の日本人外野手。
ルーキーシーズンの成績は打率.262、ホームランはわずか14本だけだった。
これまで日本のプロ野球では毎年30本前後のホームランを当たり前のように打っていた鈴木だが、やはりルーキーシーズンのこの2022年ではメジャーの投手に苦戦しとても日本時代のようなホームランバッターとして鈴木がメジャー球界から見られる事は少なかった。
2023年、今季の鈴木は体重を増やし体を大きくした結果バッティングがさらに力強くなりシーズン終盤の9月には日本人の右打者としては初となるホームラン20本に到達した。
年々、メジャーの環境にも慣れ、成績が向上している鈴木はきっとメジャー3年目となる来シーズンは今シーズン以上の活躍が期待できるだろう。
